Samuel Swan Letter Book, 1804-1816.

Contains business and personal correspondence from Samuel Swan who served in various capacities (master, part owner, aupercargo) on the vessels Betsey, Star, Martha, Rover, Eliza, and Vigilant. His letters contain accounts of trading methods, prices, markets for various goods, and conditions on the West African coast. Commodities discussed and traded are sugar, coffee, salt, gold, ivory, various liquors, cloth, and gum.
